Southwark Legends & Brent Panthers Set For Historic Finals Finale
The 2023/24 CBL season draws to a close this Sunday at the CBL Division 1 Finals, featuring a historic ‘club clash’ between 2 rival teams representing North and South London.
Reigning league U18 and U16 Champions, Southwark Legends have once again reached the finals in both divisions, however, the hungry and talented club from South London are engineered to ‘never settle’ and have fought their way through to a potentially historic ‘clean sweep’ in all boys competitions, also making it through the the U12 and U14 finals as well. To further evidence the rise of the Legends dominance, the U18 girls will also compete in their first final, in attempt to bring all available titles back to the Legends trophy cabinet.
However, it won’t be easy.
Standing in their way on the boys side is the other most dominant club in the CBL this season, North London’s Brent Panthers. The Panthers have a strong and rapidly rising development program that has already seen them clean up Division 2 honours in the U12, U14 and U16 categories. In addition, their Division 1 teams are the highest seed left standing in the U12 (8-2), U14 (10-1, joint with Legends) and U16 (9-0) – and have won through to face off against the Legends in the U12, U14 and U16 finals.
This is the first time in CBL history that 2 clubs have won through at least 3 age group categories to face of in a finals and adds to the excitement of what is always a memorable final day of the CBL season.
In the U18 girls final, the Legends will have their hands full against perennial champions and the ‘gold standard’ of girls basketball across London, CoLA Southwark Pride. Though the Legends boast international level talent and are highly competitive and well coached, the ‘CoLA Way’ always seem to find a way to win in the CBL (even when forced into overtime to do it). This will undoubtedly be the girls game of the season and one we’re eager to watch.
In the U18 boys final, the Legends match up against CONEL Warriors A , putting a former 18U champion against the reigning 18U champions, in a game that is assured to bring highlights, intensity and above the rim action, in the most athletic division in the CBL. Both teams feature players destined for bigger things over in America on scholarships, so if you want a glimpse into what it takes to reach that level, this is the game for you.

* At the conclusion of each game there will be an awards presentation for both the Division 1 and Division 2 age group champions. The U10 Champions will be awarded during the 12U presentation.
