Recap
In one of the most entertaining games of the new CBL season so far, the Camden Knights came through in the clutch to take down the talented Chiswick Gators in the boys under 16 Western Conference by a score of 42-40.
Both teams are new to the CBL this year and, if the talent on show during this game is anything to go by, will undoubtedly both be in the hunt for silverware at the end of the season.
In a game that swung back and forth through all 4 quarters, it was Camden Knights Josh Akinbiyi who consistently seemed to be on the right end of successful play after play. Β Akinbiyi cut through the Gators defense like a hot knife through butter, finishing at the rim with the soft-touch finger rolls time and time again. Β His feathery jump shot and silky smooth handle propelled him to a hugely impressive 33 point personal scoring haul and look set to make him one of the players to put on everyones radar as the season progresses. Β He’s for real.
The Gators put up an admirable fight behind 18 well-earned points from Elias BentirΒ and looked like they may have done enough to take the game when Bentir hit a 3 to push Chiswick up 38-36 in the last 90 seconds of the game. Β However, Akinbiyi was simply too good on this day as he proceeded to score the last 5 Camden points of the game to lead them to a dramatic win on yet another unstoppable drive to the hoop which finished on the buzzer with the ball falling through for the 2 point Camden win. Classic.
Game MVP: Josh Akinbiyi
