Our teams from Southwark proved to be tough competition this week in the Community Basketball League (CBL) with City of London Academy’s U16 girls beating Renegades 34-15, as well as Southwark Legends winning 29-21 against Hackney Kings.

Both teams showed out on Sunday at the Copper Box Arena in the Olympic Park with COLA’s girls setting the tone early on in the day. Southwark’s very own Adaobi Nebuwa finished as the game MVP after a stand out performance where she secured an impressive 20 points out of her team’s total to enable COLA to win with a 19 point lead.

Nebula said, “I’m very happy with our win today because it shows how hard we work as a team. We love playing in the CBL because the league shows that girls can play basketball, and so it’s a great way for our talent to be seen.”

COLA’s success was shortly followed by Southwark Legends’ U25 team who managed to sustain their lead and end strong. Legends’ displayed great hunger whilst MVP F.Ilo did well to pull away as the lead scorer with 12 points in total.

“Hackney Kings was good competition for us and so I really enjoyed that game,” Ilo said. “We’re going to keep on working hard to ensure we have a good season this year.”

Both teams play in the CBL run by the London School of Basketball (LSB) in partnership with Reach and Teach. For more information, please contact lwilliams@reachandteach.co.uk
