The Ealing Phoenicians claimed the game and came out victorious with their first win of 33-31 over Barnet East Giants on Sunday 6th March 2016.
Phoenicians’ talented basketball star, Munir Bulale, played exceptionally well, making full use of this minutes on the court to finish with a high of eleven points overall.
“I love playing in the CBL because you get so much court time to improve as a player and as a team. I’m really proud of my performance as eleven points is the most I’ve scored in a game so today was a big win for me.”
The game was competitive throughout as Barnet initially held the lead of 14-2 by the end of the first period. However, this seemed to push Ealing’s Reuben Monteiro to dominate in the paint and convert easy rebounds into 5 points, helping the Phoenicians build their way to 21-9 going into the half.
Despite being down by 12 points, this didn’t seem to phase the Phoenicians who battled through with a great team effort from Reuben Monteiro, Abdul Ali, Marcus Radosevic and Jaheim Reid who all performed well on both ends of the floor.
All seemed to be going well for Barnet until Ealing’s Marcus Radosevic took over to net 10 points in the second half alone, pulling his team back into the game to put the win within their grasp.
With everything to play for, both teams played great defence, but with Abdul Ali sinking a three in the last seconds of the game, Ealing sealed the deal with a two point margin.
For his attitude and performance, Abdul Ali was awarded the game MVP.
He said, “We play to win and that’s what happened today. Basketball helps develop your physical and mental ability to keep on going, and this game is a perfect example of how perseverance keeps you and your team strong regardless of the circumstances.”
