Recap
In a thrilling showcase of youth basketball progression in London, the Brent Panthers emerged victorious in the 12U Division 2 Playoff Finals, defeating the Crouch End Tigers with a commanding score of 55-32. The Panthers’ stellar performance throughout the game secured their well-deserved triumph and marked a memorable milestone in their journey.
The Brent Panthers started the game with an explosive offensive display, outscoring the Tigers 23-9 in the first quarter. Their relentless energy and cohesive teamwork allowed them to dominate both ends of the floor, leaving their opponents struggling to find answers.
The second quarter witnessed a defensive battle, with both teams tightening their defenses and limiting scoring opportunities. The Panthers maintained their composure and managed to extend their lead, outscoring the Tigers 9-3. Milan Krstic emerged as a standout player for the Brent based team, displaying his shooting proficiency by contributing 14 points, including two of three from beyond the arc. Β Krstic is an emerging talent who will be one to watch next season as his skills are clearly catching up to his ambition.
The third quarter proved to be a turning point in the game, as the Panthers intensified their defensive efforts, allowing only four points from the Tigers. With their stifling defense and efficient offensive execution, the Panthers extended their lead further, outscoring their opponents 16-4.
Despite a valiant effort from the Crouch End Tigers in the final quarter, led by Jake Wilkinson (who scored 24 of the Tigers overall 32 points in the game!), the Brent Panthers maintained their composure and responded with crucial plays to keep the game on ice. The Tigers managed to outscore the Panthers 11-7, but it was not enough to overturn the significant deficit. The Panthers’ earlier dominant quarters secured their victory, earning them the well-deserved 14U Division 2 championship title.
Daniel Oronsaye proved to be an exceptional talent throughout the game, earning the Most Valuable Player (MVP) honors. Oronsaye showcased his versatility, contributing 14 points, 5 assists, and 2 steals. His outstanding performance on both ends of the floor demonstrated his potential as a future prospect to watch. He has developed a confident and complete offensive arsenal, but this combo guard truly excels on the defensive end, where he has the ability to disrupt offences and lock down players in 1on1 situations.
Though they fell just short in the final, a special mention should be made for the Crouch End Tigers. Β In just their first ever CBL season, the Haringey based outfit progressed all the way though to the finals, finishing 2nd in a division of 10 competitive teams. Β Positively coached and well-supported, this is undoubtedly a team to watch next season as they work to improve upon their stellar campaign.
The Brent Panthers’ triumph in the 12U Division 2 Playoff Finals exemplifies their dedication, teamwork, and relentless pursuit of victory. Though the exceptional performances of Oronsaye and Krstic stood out, it was the full team effort and cohesion that ultimately marks their success. Β As Panthers Coach Swift noted: “I’m most proud of the progress made by the less experienced players on this team. Β Adam, Anaiah, Aruno, Alex, Nick, Will, Henry and Lucas all played their part in this season at various points. Naz and Albie are also huge for this team and I felt really put us over the edge. Β It’s the second chip of the day for us, but it is more of a reflection on the work the kids all put in week in week out and so I hope they enjoy this as they have put in the work to get to this point”.
As the Panthers celebrate their victory, they solidify their place as a force to be reckoned with in the London basketball community, and of course have the CBL eagerly anticipating their progress next season.
