Hackney’s very own DJ De-Freitas Smith and Jarelle Coker meant business in their game against Ealing Phoenicians after they displayed a stand-out performance to help the Hackney Jedis’ Under 12 team close out the game by more than double (30-14).
Within minutes into the game, DJ De-Freitas Smith found his rhythm and did well to sink a three which opened up a 7 point lead in the first quarter. Team mate Yan Coundous then found his way to the basket to score all 4 points in the second quarter to put Jedis up 15-5 going into the half.
Jedi siblings’, Jade and Tyler Weekes, were double trouble for the Phoenicians throughout the game, whilst Jarelle Coker knocked down another three alongside scoring two easy baskets to finish with 7 points in total to steer home the win for Hackney.
Coker said, ‘My favourite moment of the game was when I hit a three because I’ve been working on my shot. Basketball is really fun and I’m happy my team won because we’re talented and work hard.’
Both teams play in the CBL run by the London School of Basketball (LSB) in partnership with Reach and Teach. For more information, please contact lwilliams@reachandteach.co.uk
