The Kennington Generals snatched a convincing victory, 70-36, over Mamba Mix in an exciting start to the Community Basketball League U23 Men’s division on Sunday 27th November.
Tight two-man play between the Generals Jason Okosi and Darnel Sharpe-Kelly gave the Mix fits on defense and earned the Generals plenty of good looks which they duly converted to take the first quarter by storm, 21-4.
Mamba Mix soon upped their offensive ante in the second, thanks to Tommy Tan’s strong work down low and a series of offensive putbacks by the Mamba frontline worked tirelessly to try to find a way back into the game. However, the Generals’ aren’t new to this, they are one of the most experienced and talented teams in the CBL, and so it came as no surprise when Kyle Clarke joined Okosi in another unanswered 8 point run to cap off the quarter, 39-12.
As the second half got underway, the Generals continued to stamp their dominance on the game and broke the game for good with another 12-0 run.
Sharpe-Kelly was awarded game MVP honours for leading his team in the fourth, draining threes from all angles and even converting ‘old school’ three point plays from the line to help cement what was ultimately a dominant victory for his team.
Kennington’s MVP, Sharpe-Kelly, said, “We’re a tight team and today’s win reflects our hard work and strong chemistry. We’re really excited to play another season together, and so we’re confident today will be the first of many wins.”
