Sunday 27th November 2016 saw CBL U23’s MM Prep and the Haringey Sixers face off in a record-setting fashion where MM Prep settled the score of 105-48, smashing the existing CBL record for the number of points scored by a team in a single game.

Star player and game MVP, Kevaun McKenzie, and Adrian Simms came out hot for MM Prep, knocking down back to back threes and finding the open man to give their team an early lead. Sixers’ sharpshooter Daniel Ibunuku retaliated with a triple taken from near half-court, while Javel Small put his man on skates and his opponents on notice of his jump shooting ability.

Despite trailing 28-8 at the end of the first period, slick link up play between Ayo Awojobi and Daniel Ibunuku helped the Sixers to hang on. The pretty play was marred by turnovers from both teams in the second quarter, but MM Prep strung together a stellar six-pass sequence leading to a spectacular buzzer-beating three pointer by Maurice Gilbert to close out the half, 56-24.

MM Prep widened their lead in the third, showing the rest of the CBL why they look like a force to be reckoned with this CBL season. Kevaun McKenzie continued to lead all scorers in the fourth on his way to 37 points, but it was also Trevor Onaiwu’s constant hustle on both sides of the ball throughout the game that impressed spectators until the end of the game.

MM Prep’s MVP, Kevaun McKenzie, said, “Today’s game was a lot of fun and it feels amazing to set a new record! It’s always good to play with friends and help one another improve, and the CBL is a great opportunity for players like ourselves to play competitively and see where we are at against each other. I’m looking forward to our next game so it’s back to work for now.”
