The CBL remains the place to find the best in female basketball talent as both Haringey Sixers and Access2Sports proved ‘She’s Got Next’ in a thrilling over-time game that saw Haringey pinch the win by one point to win 19-18 on Sunday 11th December 2016.

Haringey’s sharpshooter and MVP, Janai Wilson, displayed a fighter’s mentality, supplying 13 of her team’s 19points alone to help her side overcome Islington rivals.

Whilst keeping up with Wilson, Access2Sports had to also concentrate on locking down double trouble, Levi Ezekiel and Gabriella Fedu, who worked well together to make up Haringey’s remaining 6 points for the win.

But a one-point win suggests the game could have ended very differently.

Although it’s early days in the season, Access2Sports’ Esther Obuekwe has already proven to be an all-rounded player whose height and composure gives her the advantage over her competition. This was true of her on Sunday as Obuekwe grabbed half her team’s rebounds whilst also taking care of the ball on the offensive end to add 7 points for her team.

Despite a great performance from Amna Alamalhuda (6), and Lawrin Nze (4), A2S played with power but Haringey had that extra bite to secure a tough, yet well deserved, win.

Game MVP, Janai Wilson, said, “Today was everything you want in a game – it was fast, competitive, and we got the W! We came out really excited at first, but after listening to our Coach, we calmed down and concentrated on playing great defense. Everyone knows that defense wins games, and so this plus good communication and team work allows us to go home as winners!”
