The Haringey Sixers and Tower Hamlets Ravens played a game for the ages in the CBL U18 Women’s Division in a tightly contested match up that saw the Sixers edge out the Ravens by just 1 point, by a score of 11-10.
The Tower Hamlets Ravens had a strong first half as Milicent Ayau and Cazzie Lee Pieastros Fontanos led their team well to jump out in front 5-7 before half-time.
However, Sixers soon flipped the script in the third quarter as dominant play from the irrepressible Levi Ezekiel and Gabriella Fedu allowed Sixers to shrink the gap and trail by one (9-10) going into the final minute of the game. Though the Sixers are a newly formed team comprised of new players from the Haringey Sixth Form Basketball Academy, they clearly play with alot of passion, energy and determination – which was best characterised by Ezekiel’s energetic play. The lightening quick point guard was a constant pest on defense for the Tower Hamlets guards, turning them over time and time again.
Despite brilliant teamwork from Ravens’s Kamaria Baker-Martin and Jade Akinyemi, the Sixers came together to completely shut out the Ravens in the last 3 minutes of the game, before adding another basket via a Fedu rebound and putback that pushed Haringey over the line by 1.
Game MVP Levi Ezekiel said “It was an exciting game that we are so happy to win! We are a new team and some of us have only started playing basketball properly this season so to win games in the CBL already is great for us and gives us more confidence in our next games!”.
