The LSB has partnered with Haringey 6th Form College to deliver the LSB Haringey Basketball Academy for 16-19 year old elite level male and female players from across the capital. The academy develops teams at the elite, varsity and junior varsity levels, providing coaching, guidance and progressive opportunities for players who find themselves at different stages of development.
The Haringey Sixers CBL teams are primarily aimed at the varsity and junior varsity teams to give players more real game experience.
Led by former GB International and British Basketball champion, Perry Lawson, the Haringey Academy is geared towards developing elite level players who aspire to reach the next level. Lawson is one of Britain’s most successful professional basketball players of all time, impressively winning 10 BBL trophies over an 11 year career – which also also saw him play over in America on scholarship and represent his country on numerous occasions. He most recently ran the point guard position for the London Lions playing in front of thousands of fans at the Olympic Park.
“I’ve enjoyed a successful and rewarding playing career that has taken me all over the world and given me experiences I’ll always treasure. Representing my country as as full international and winning multiple championships at the top level in this country are always going to be highlights for me as a player, but I’ve had a growing sense of wanting to give back to the next generation over the past few years and have always been a coach at heart. Now I’ve got all my coaching qualifications I’m ready to build something special in Haringey in partnership with the college, and establish the academy as a nationally recognised home for elite player development. I’m committed to building the next generation of British basketball stars, right here in the heart of Haringey“
– Perry Lawson
The LSB Haringey Academy provides intensive skills development, strength and conditioning training, athlete support, guidance, technical individual and team coaching and up to 30 games per season for gifted and talented players. With strong links to professional basketball teams and universities throughout Britain and Europe – alongside a bespoke preparation and placement programme for American colleges, players who attend the LSB Haringey Academy will be well positioned to fulfil their basketball ambitions.
Fresh for 2016/2017 the LSB Haringey Academy is extending provision to include a girls program, inviting competitive girls to get involved and enjoy all of the benefits of an elite academy, based in the heart of London. LSB’s head of female basketball development, Lisa Williams commented: “It’s exciting to be able to provide an elite level pathway for girls to progress through to, right here in London. We’ll be appointing a head coach for the girls program in the months ahead, who can match the level of coaching excellence everyone has come to expect from a LSB Academy and that will be wholly reflective of what Perry has already established with the boys program”.
