The Southwark Legends took the lead in their game against the Ealing Phoenicians after finishing with a dominant 68-23 victory on Sunday 22nd May at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre.
The Legends outplayed the Phoenicians and handed them a heavy loss to put their postseason to an end.
No sooner had the game started and Southwark exploded in the first quarter with Tarick Anderson, Lamin Dumbuya, Elijah Ilo and Halim Ibrahim all doing their part to give their team to an incredible 20-8 lead.
Team mate, Peter Akinyede, found his rhythm early on, knocking down back to back threes to help keep his team in front to finish 31-19 going into the half.
Rising to the challenge, Ealing’s Ruben Monteiro, Abdul Ali and Jahiem Reid all played well, finishing the third with 15 points combined to keep their team in the game.
However, Akinyede remained dominant and with the help of Alan Lawrence sinking two threes in the final quarter, Southwark closed out the game successfully.
Sharpshooter Peter Akinyede led all scorers with an impressive 20 points and was named MVP of the game.
Akinyede, said, “We did really well and executed on defence. We’ve worked hard all season and so believe we deserve to take it all the way and finish as champions. Out of everyone in the league, we’re looking forward to playing the Haringey Hawks as we think they’re good competition for us.”
